The DANCE Awards Luncheon is held at the NCAAHPERD/DANCE Convention in November! Come and join us as we honor our DANCE award winners! We are very proud of our award winners, and we know you will be too!
Nominations for DANCE Awards are accepted at all times of the year, however the deadline is July 1 of the current year. Nominations made after that date will be considered for the following year.

Awards Criteria/Descriptions: |
DANCE Student: This award is given to an undergraduate student who is currently enrolled in an accredited college or university dance, dance education or performing arts program. The recipient should have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and demonstrate a promising career within the dance field via campus and community involvement. Examples of involvement include, but are not limited to performances, choreography, internships, leadership, professional associations, collaborative projects, etc.
K-12 DANCE Educator: This award is given to a dance educator or specialist who currently teaches movement and dance education in the K-12 curriculum. The recipient of this award should demonstrate strong teaching practices, innovative curriculum development and leadership within their school and/or district. The recipient of this award will go on to represent NCAAHPERD DANCE at the annual Southern District AHPERD Convention.
Within this award, DANCE also recognizes one Elementary DANCE Educator (K-5), one Middle School DANCE Educator (6-8), and one High School DANCE Educator (9-12) educator. From those three finalists, the overall selection for K-12 DANCE Educator of the Year will be made.
College or University DANCE Educator: This award is given to a dance educator who currently teaches within an accredited college or university dance, dance education or performing arts program. The recipient should demonstrate strong skills in teaching, curriculum development, and leadership at the local and state level. The recipient of this award will go on to represent NCAAHPERD DANCE at the annual Southern District AHPERD Convention.
Community Dance Educator: This award is given to a dance educator who currently teaches within a dance studio, performing arts center, community arts program, and/or recreation program. The recipient should demonstrate solid teaching skills that support the philosophy of dance education and exhibit leadership within the community where they live and work.
Superintendent or Administrator: This award is given to a superintendent of a public school, principal or administrator of a public school or school system, chair of a college/university dance program, or administrator of a community arts program who demonstrates a genuine interest and support in programming for dance education. |
| DANCE Awards Process: |
| The awards process is as follows: |
| 1. |
Nominations are submitted by July 1 to the President of DANCE. |
| 2. |
Letters of acknowledgement are sent to nominees. |
| 3. |
Awards Selection Committee meets for deliberation. |
| 4. |
Recipients are notified by phone and via letter. |
| 5. |
Recipients must submit a headshot and biography electronically to the DANCE president upon acceptance of the award via phone. |
| 6. |
The President sends all headshots and biographies of recipients to the NCAAHPERD headquarters in August to be included in convention literature. |
| 7. |
Dance Free Style with your coat, a broom, a mop, a book, etc. as your partner. |
