Nominate a Candidate for the Honor Award |

| This award provides the means through which the North Carolina
Alliance recognizes young professionals who have demonstrated
outstanding potential for teaching, scholarly productivity, and
professional service |
| |
I. Qualifications of Candidates for the Hooks Award :: |
| |
| |
- Candidates shall not be more than 36 years of age on November 1 of the year in which the award is presented.
- Candidates shall have earned at least a master's degree in one of the HPERD fields or be a National Board Certified Teacher.
- Candidates shall have held membership continuously in NCAHPERD for at least three years, including the current year.
- Candidates shall have held membership in the American Alliance for the year prior to nomination and be a current member of the American Alliance.
- Candidates shall be currently employed in North Carolina in one of the HPERD fields.
- Candidates shall have demonstrated outstanding potential in at least two of the following areas: teaching, scholarly productivity, and professional service, as reflected by publications, awards, or other recognition for achievement in teaching, coaching, performing or administration.
- Candidates should be persons of professional integrity who exemplify the spirit of service to the professions and who have by their leadership made a significant contribution to the advancement of the fields of NCAHPERD.

II. Procedures for the Hooks Award :: |

A. |
Procedure for nomination |
| |
|
- All Alliance members may nominate persons for the Hooks Award.
- The nominator has the responsibility of sending a Nominee Information Form to the person who he/she wishes to nominate. The nominee completes the form and returns it to the nominator.
- To make a nomination, the Nomination Form, the Nominee Information Form, and two supporting letters shall be submitted simultaneously to the chairperson by July 1.
- A total of no more than six (6) pages of biographical data, including the three pages of the Nominee Information Form, shall be submitted.
- The nominator and one other member of the Alliance shall write supporting letters explaining the reasons the nominee deserves this special recognition. No more than these two letters will be considered.

B. |
Committee Review and Rating |

|
- The selection of the Hooks Award recipient(s) shall be completed prior to beginning the selection of the Honor Award recipient(s).
- The chairperson shall send each committee member a complete list of candidates to be considered for the current year's Honor Award.
- On the first review, all candidates must be given a numerical rating, classifying them into one of five groups:
- Groups Numerical Weight
- Outstanding Qualifications 8
- Excellent Qualifications 6
- Good Qualifications 4
- Poor Qualifications 2
- Drop from list 0
- The candidates receiving a rating of 4.0 or higher, determined by averaging the committee members' ratings, will receive a second rating by the committee.
- The names of no more than two candidates who have received the highest ratings, determined by averaging the committee members' ratings, will be submitted to committee members for final voting of "yes" or "no" by July 15. Five affirmative votes are necessary for committee approval of a candidate.
- The number of Hooks Awards to be presented in one year shall not be MORE than two (2). There may be some years when the committee may not make a recommendation for a Hooks Award.
