J.J. Beale

NCAAHPERD-SM Candidate for Vice President

Education has always had a profound impact on my life. I am a nineteen-year veteran physical education teacher at Bearfield Primary School of Ahoskie, NC in Hertford County.  I have the pleasure of teaching anywhere from 800 to 1,000 students annually.  I have served for over a decade as the “ENCORE” department chairperson and I am also the Lead Healthful Living Coordinator for my district.  For the past six years, I have been the North Carolina Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Dance and Sport Management (NCAAHPERD-SM) Physical Education Association (PEA) Region 6 representative.  I was Chair for the Physical Education Leadership Training (PELT) in Black Mountain this year as well.  I have had the honor of winning State Jump Rope for Heart Coordinator of the Year and then became the State Joint Projects Coordinator.  I have been participating in the association for the past 16 years, during which my school has helped raised up to $10,500 annually for the cause.  I have been Relay for Life captain and continue to support the charity.

As a graduate from East Carolina University in Exercise and Sport Science, I began my professional career with Hertford County Public Schools at Riverview Elementary School teaching grades Prek through 5th grade.  I continued my career in the same district at Ahoskie Graded School, hosting Prek through 3rd grade students.  Upon the construction of Bearfield Primary School, I was pleased to be selected to be a part of our newest building teaching students Prek through 3rd grade.

Community service has always been an important aspect of my life as both an educator and person.  My involvement with Jump Rope for Heart and Relay for Life ignited my passion for helping others. This led to my participation in Special Olympics with Hertford County.  I soon became Special Olympics Hertford County (SOHC) Coordinator and led my team to State, National, and World competitions.  Over the 10-year span of my leadership with SOHC, many of my athletes served as global messengers.  I was awarded the Historical Albemarle Area Coordinator of the year, which I considered a monumental achievement.  Additionally, I actively participated in the North Carolina Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycee’s) Ahoskie chapter.  During my involvement with the Ahoskie Jaycee’s I received various awards as a part of the board, recruiting new members, and general involvement.  Furthermore, I served as the Ahoskie Jaycee’s President during that time.

Being Vice-President for NCAAHPERD-SM would be a great honor and privilege.  I hope to be able to bring my experience and passion of our dynamic profession to the organization.   I welcome the challenge and opportunity to serve you all as your new Vice President of NCAAHPERD-SM.
