| Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart - Joint Projects |
Jump Rope and Hoops for Heart are national educational fund raising programs that are sponsored by the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD). The goal of these two programs is to educate kids about health, fitness and the importance of a regular exercise program while simultaneously instilling values such as community involvement, leadership and altruism. Kids participate by asking friends, neighbors and family to sponsor them. They then collect pledges in hopes of earning great prizes and making a difference in the battle against America's number one killer, heart disease.
The Jump Rope for Heart event involves elementary school children and can encompass a variety of different formats and jump rope skills. The Jump Rope for Heart event programs involves elementary school children grades K - 5, however both jump rope and hoops events can also be held in middle schools, high schools, colleges, youth groups, recreation departments, church groups, etc. Coordinators have the flexibility to structure their event to meet the needs of their students. For example, Hoops for Heart activities might include 3 on 3 tournaments, 5 on 5 tournaments, skills contests, hot shot contests, etc. |

As a way of saying thanks, NCAAHPERD will pay a year's professional membership fee for any North Carolina Jump Rope or Hoops for Heart Coordinator who raises a minimum of $1,500 for the American Heart Association.
Each summer, the American Heart Association provides NCAAHPERD with a list of coordinators who qualify for this free membership. Once we have the list, we begin granting hundreds of memberships to our Alliance!
NCAAHPERD is proud to reward teachers, who go the extra mile for the Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart programs, with a free year membership.
Thanks to all of you who are participating in these valuable programs for your students, your community, the American Heart Association, yourself, and NCAAHPERD.! |
